Two small stops on the Grand Circuit. Ta Som has Bayon-style face towers on its gates, and the east gate is gripped roof-and-all by a huge strangler fig, a stone face peering out from between the roots; with so few visitors you often get it to yourself. Neak Pean is reached by a long wooden causeway across a flooded reservoir where bleached dead trees stand in the water, and the walk tends to stay with people more than the temple itself, a central round pool ringed by four smaller ones that once served as healing baths.
