A 1930s-style wooden yellow tram squeezing through lanes barely wider than itself, grinding up and down the hills. From Martim Moniz it climbs over Graça, rattles past the Alfama viewpoints, drops into Baixa, then climbs again through Chiado and Estrela to Campo de Ourique. House walls close enough to touch and the bell clanging on the hairpin bends are the whole show. In April–May 2026 the western end was run by buses during roadworks on Calçada da Estrela; full tram service resumed on 11 May.
