Below a stepped alley in the Baixa, this grill lights its charcoal for just three and a half hours a day. Mackerel, cod, squid and octopus come off the coals with only salt and olive oil, so the fish tastes like itself. A mixed-fish plate is €17 and a bottle of vinho verde about €9-10, which is why so many reviews call it the best value of the trip. Sardines draw people too, though once the June-September season ends they may drop off the menu.
