Galileo Museum

Museo Galileo - Istituto e Museo di Storia della Scienza

Galileo's telescopes and antique globes in a compact museum

Hours
Mon and Wed–Sun 9:30–18:00, Tue 9:30–13:00 (ticket sales stop 30 minutes before closing). Closed 25 Dec and 1 Jan
Address
Piazza dei Giudici 1, next to the Uffizi on the Arno side

Next to the Uffizi queue is an ordinary-looking doorway, and inside the Medici family's collection of scientific instruments fills the floors. Telescopes and a lens that Galileo handled himself sit in glass cases, and a huge armillary sphere takes up an entire room. It is small enough to finish in about an hour and a half, and children do not get bored.
