Piazzale degli Uffizi 6, the U-shaped building running from Piazza della Signoria to the river

This was the Medici government office block, so the galleries open off long corridors with every inch of ceiling painted in grotesques. The scene in nearly every review is a half-circle of people round Botticelli's Birth of Venus and Primavera. Add Leonardo's Annunciation, Michelangelo's round Doni Tondo and Caravaggio, and several chapters of the art-history textbook hang in one building. The corridor windows frame the Ponte Vecchio, and from the rooftop café terrace the Palazzo Vecchio tower is right beside you.
