Wooden and stone houses crowd the top of a cliff, and a waterfall pours straight through the middle of the village into the river below, hence its nickname, the town hanging on a waterfall. A stone path runs behind the falls between the rocks, so you can walk inside the curtain of water, though the steps are always wet with spray. After dark the whole village lights up and the lights shimmer on the water to the roar of the falls. It's 30 minutes from Zhangjiajie by high-speed train, so plenty of people come in the afternoon, stay for the lights and head back.
