Maoyan River scenic area in Maoyanhe town, Yongding District, roughly an hour by car from Zhangjiajie city

Cliffs rise on both sides of the gorge while the current carries the boat along at an easy pace. You can take a motorised boat or a self-paddled raft. The Jiutian Cave and a hot-spring area sit near the course, so it fits neatly into a half day. Heavy rain or typhoons can shut it down, so check the weather first.
