A natural arch punched right through the mountain, open to the sky. Below the opening, more than 131 m high, a flight of 999 stone steps climbs steeply, and from the bottom it looks as if the stairs vanish into the cloud. From the foot of the mountain, Tongtian Avenue winds up to the gate in 99 switchbacks. The express cableway now running goes up from the mountain gate over this stretch; at the top you either climb the 999 steps or pay for the escalator.
