- Address
- Hongqiao bridge over the Tuo River in the old town, Fenghuang County; about 7.5 km from Fenghuang Gucheng station
Along the Tuo River, stilt houses stand on timber posts driven into the water, and the covered Hongqiao bridge ties the two banks together. By day, boatmen pole flat boats up and down, and a queue forms at the stepping stones as everyone takes the same photo. After dark both banks light up and the river turns gold. The old town itself is free; only a bundle of sights plus the daytime boat costs money. Many people say stay the night and catch the misty river early next morning.
