Buddha finger relic and a Tang underground vault

In 1987 a Tang imperial underground vault was opened beneath the pagoda, and a Buddha finger-bone relic came out of it. In the temple you see the vault site and the gold and silver treasures the court offered. The relic itself is kept in the Hands-Together Pagoda to the east, a 148-metre tower shaped like two joined palms. The ride from Xi'an is nearly two hours and uses up the day, but few Buddhist day trips come close.
