Franz Landtmann opened it in 1873 as 'Vienna's most elegant coffee house'. Being next door to the Burgtheater, it drew actors and politicians, and Freud was a regular. Wood-panelled walls, marble tables and a big terrace facing the Ring. Sachertorte is €8.50, cheaper than Café Sacher's €11.50, and it's often pitched as 'Sachertorte without the queue'.
