The Habsburgs wintered here for over 600 years, so the palace is a chain of wings, and the courtyards and squares are free to walk through. The Sisi Museum shows the empress's dresses, exercise gear and travel medicine chest, then leads into the Imperial Apartments, where Franz Joseph's study and plain iron bed are surprisingly modest. As of October 2026 the Sisi section is closed for redesign and only the apartments are open, with tickets 25% cheaper; the new Sisi Museum opens on 19 November.
