An old indoor market dating from the Japanese era. Lanes radiate from a hexagonal tower at its centre, crammed with decades-old stalls selling noodles, braised pork rice and fried radish cake. Locals come here for breakfast, so mornings are liveliest and the best-known stalls close once they sell out around lunchtime. A plate of radish cake topped with a fried egg and sausage, plus a milk tea, is breakfast Taichung-style.
