A lakeside drive to a red shed and a mountain valley
⚠ Gravel road to Paradise

- Address
- About 50 minutes along the lake road from Queenstown; Paradise is further in on gravel
The road from Queenstown to Glenorchy clings to the lakeshore cliffs, bend after bend, and you'll want to pull over at every one. At the end there's a small wharf with a red-roofed shed at the tip and snowy mountains crowding in behind. Drive on past the village into a valley actually named Paradise: open paddocks, beech forest and glacier-carved peaks that look like a film set. They've been one, too; The Lord of the Rings shot around here.
