A baroque giant with a very long garden, half a day out

Hours: Apr–Sep 9am–6pm, Oct–Mar 10am–4pm. Closed Mondays (open on public holidays). Closed 1 Jan, Shrove Tuesday, 24, 25 and 31 Dec

A baroque palace you can reach by S-Bahn. The façade stretches for hundreds of metres, too wide to fit in one photo from the gate. Inside is a gallery of European baroque painting, plus a grand staircase and painted ceilings. Out back, the garden and canal make a long, easy walk. A good breather between city sights.
