The lift hits level 88 in well under a minute and the city spreads out like a model behind floor-to-ceiling glass. North is the yellow dome of Flinders Street Station and the CBD towers; south, Port Phillip Bay and the St Kilda shoreline. Pay extra for The Edge, a glass cube that slides 3 metres out from the building, and when the frosted glass clears there's 285 metres of air under your shoes. Go up before sunset to get daylight and the night lights for one ticket.
