Address
On Plaza de Cibeles, inside the old post-office palace now called CentroCentro; viewpoint tickets are handled at the ground-floor desk

The old central post office, all white stone lace, now belongs to the city and runs as a cultural centre. A lift takes you up to the tower, where the Cibeles fountain roundabout sits at your feet and the Alcalá and Gran Vía split away on either side. On a clear day you can see the skyscrapers to the north and the Royal Palace roofs to the west, which snaps the layout of the city into place. The ground-floor exhibitions are free, so the building is worth a look even if the viewpoint slot does not suit. Around sunset the light turns red along the facades and the photographers pile in.
