Start on the top floor of the salmon-pink palace and work down: gold-leaf altarpieces from the 1200s, then Rembrandt, Monet and Van Gogh, ending on the ground floor with Hopper and Lichtenstein. It was one family's private collection, and it fills the gaps the Prado leaves, especially Impressionism, German Expressionism and American painting. The rooms are roomy and the route is simple, so you won't get lost. It's the right size to slot between the two giant museums.
