Known as Kyoto's kitchen, this lane barely 3 metres wide packs about a hundred stalls into 400 metres. Pickle sellers, dried fish, tofu and Kyoto vegetables sit between snack stalls selling baby octopus on a stick (with a quail egg inside), soy milk doughnuts and dashimaki omelette. The market asks you not to eat while walking, so eat in front of or inside the shop where you bought it. The east end runs straight into the Teramachi and Shinkyogoku arcades.
