A sukiyaki house open since 1873. On the corner of the Teramachi arcade its tiled-roof townhouse and big paper lantern look much as they did at opening. Kuroge wagyu from across Japan is aged in-house and cooked in a warishita sauce refined by the fifth-generation owner. Every tatami room has its own ceiling, alcove and carved transom, so the rooms are worth a look. Lunch at the main store starts at ¥8,591; the Takashimaya Kyoto branch (7F) does a ¥3,300 sukiyaki set.
