KL-style Hokkien mee is thick yellow noodles fried in dark soy until they turn almost black. Kim Lian Kee has been frying them since 1927, with crispy pork lard, prawns, pork and cabbage tossed through. The high flame gives it a proper smoky edge, salty first with a sweet finish. It sits on the corner where Petaling Street market begins, so it slots neatly into a Chinatown wander.
