Taiwan's old capital, where the Dutch built forts in the 1600s, has a temple on every block and snack shops run by the same families for generations. Start at the red-brick Chihkan Tower, walk on to the Confucius Temple and the old lanes of Shennong Street, then head west to Anping, where banyan roots have swallowed the walls of the Tree House. Danzai noodles, shrimp rolls and coffin bread: you'll be full long before you're done walking.
