Drive east out of Waikiki and you reach Kahala, a neighbourhood of big houses. The hotel sits on its beach, and it sounds nothing like Waikiki. Dolphins swim in a lagoon on the grounds. There is little to walk to outside, so one day tends to stay inside the grounds.
