Pick your bread downstairs, then eat it in the first-floor café looking over the lake, or out on the terrace with your feet in a footbath. There are over fifty breads; the best seller is the rice-flour curry doughnut, crisp outside with curry and a whole soft-boiled egg inside. The footbath is Lake Ashi hot-spring water, lovely in winter.
