One wall of the main gallery is solid glass. Step away from a Japanese painting and the next thing in the frame is Lake Ashi with Mt Fuji behind it. The collection is contemporary nihonga, small enough to see in an hour, and the best seat is by the lake-side window. It sits just across the road from the Moto-Hakone boat pier, so it slots in easily before or after a cruise.
