This was the Kuroda clan's castle in the Edo period, but the keep is long gone; what's left is towering stone walls and a few turrets scattered over a hill. Expect a castle and you'll feel short-changed; treat it as a park of stone stairways and ramparts and it works. In spring the walls disappear under cherry blossom and this becomes the city's busiest hanami spot. Normally the highlight is climbing the keep base for a view over the city, but it is closed for excavation from 26 May until the end of December 2026 (planned). It joins onto Ohori Park, so walk the two together.
