Behind San Lorenzo church, Piazza di Madonna degli Aldobrandini 6

Behind the leather stalls of San Lorenzo hides the Medici family mausoleum. First comes the Chapel of the Princes, an octagon whose walls are inlaid entirely with coloured marble and semi-precious stone; what look like paintings are all cut stone. Then the New Sacristy, a white room Michelangelo designed and sculpted, where Day and Night, Dawn and Dusk recline on the tombs. It's far quieter than the Uffizi or Accademia, so you can stand with the Michelangelos as long as you like.
