Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art (Modern One)

Lawn sculpture and modern art after Dean Village

Address
Five minutes up Belford Road from Dean Village; its sister building Modern Two sits across the road

Climb up from Dean Village and a grassy slope opens in front of a neoclassical building. Two galleries face each other across the road, with names like Picasso, Dali and Hockney inside, while Charles Jencks' landform sculpture is stepped into the lawn. Loop the rooms, then sit on a bench outside and the half-day walk ends neatly. Exhibitions change, so check which building is showing what before you go.
