Isla Holbox

Isla Holbox

A car-free island of sand streets, shallow sea and big sunsets

⚠ Better with a night

Tickets
No island entry fee. Ferry 330 pesos one way (9 Hermanos, May 2026 guide)
Address
An island reached by boat from Chiquilá; the beach is a 5-minute walk from the village square

Golf carts and bicycles, not cars, roll along the sand streets here. Walk past a village of painted murals and you hit pale-green shallow water; at low tide you can wander a long way out along the sandbars. At sunset people gather on the beach swings and hammocks to watch the sky go from pink to violet. In summer, boats leave from here to swim with whale sharks. Getting there and back eats half a day, so most people stay at least a night.
