Avenida Xel-Há in block SM 28 downtown, about a 10-minute walk west of the ADO terminal

Lanes of souvenir stalls wrap around in a horseshoe. Painted skulls, rainbow hammocks, silver jewellery, tequila and vanilla pile up in every shop, and 'amigo, just looking!' follows you round. Opening prices start high, so smile and bargain. Tucked in the inner courtyard is a cluster of local restaurants, good for tacos or seafood between shops.
