A protected island north of Isla Mujeres. Reached only on day tours from Cancún or Isla Mujeres

No roads, no hotels. An hour or so by boat and you reach mangroves, pale sand and seabirds filling the sky. It is a national park with a daily visitor limit, so it feels far quieter than any Cancún beach. Tours usually bundle reef snorkelling around the island with a beach lunch. In rough weather the snorkel stop gets shortened or skipped.
