Standing under 2,400-year-old marble columns

⚠ Timed ticket required

Hours
Summer (Apr–Aug) 8am–8pm; from September closing moves earlier with sunset, down to 5pm in December. Last entry 30 min before closing
Tickets
Adults €30 (slopes included); free for EU under 25 and non-EU under 18. Address
Main west gate up from the Dionysiou Areopagitou walkway, or the south-slope entrance by the Acropolis Museum

You climb a polished, slippery marble path through the Propylaia gate and then the Parthenon fills the view, bigger than you expect. There's almost always scaffolding or a crane on one side; restoration has been going for decades and it's part of the picture now. Next door stand the Caryatid maidens of the Erechtheion, and from the edge of the rock you get the whole white sprawl of Athens down to the sea. There's next to no shade, so on summer afternoons the stone throws the heat straight back at you.
