A neighbourhood café on the corner of the square in front of the Noorderkerk, and the name that comes up every time someone asks about apple pie (appeltaart) in Amsterdam. The slice is tall and packed with cinnamon apples; pay €1 more for whipped cream (slagroom), which is the point. On Mondays there's a fabric and flea market on the square, on Saturdays an organic farmers' market, and those mornings it's rammed. Lunch runs to uitsmijters (fried eggs on bread); evenings to bitterballen and beer.
