A shiny glass-and-steel sausage stand between the State Opera and the Albertina. The Bitzinger family has run it since 1999 and reopened it in its current design in 2008 (official). In 2024 Vienna's sausage-stand culture went onto the UNESCO intangible heritage list. The one to get is the Käsekrainer, a sausage that oozes cheese when you bite it, served with bread and mustard or ketchup for €6 (official menu, July 2025). After a performance you'll see people in evening dress eating sausages standing up.
