Walk a few steps from the boat to the canal and the houses start: pink, sky blue, yellow, green, wall to wall. The story goes that fishermen painted them so they could find home in the fog, and owners still need the council's say-so to change colour. What there is to do is the houses, the canals and the lace shops, so half a day covers it. The leaning bell tower of San Martino and the Lace Museum are here too. Most people pair it with Murano for a full day.
