A silver giant rises out of empty steppe: a 40-metre stainless-steel Chinggis on horseback, put up in 2008 on the spot where legend says the young Temüjin found a golden whip. He holds a whip and faces east toward his homeland in Khentii. In the lobby of the base stands a 9-metre traditional boot; take the lift and a flight of stairs and you come out on the horse's head, nose to nose with the khan's face and arm, with grassland running to every horizon.
