A national park wrapped around a cluster of volcanic peaks north of the city. At the Xiaoyoukeng vents, white sulphur steam hisses out of cracks and the rotten-egg smell follows you along the ridge. The trail from there up Qixingshan is a long staircase, but the top gives a view over the whole Taipei basin. In spring, calla lilies and cherry blossoms whiten the fields around Zhuzihu. Shuttle bus 108 loops between the main trailheads, so you can link walks without retracing steps.
