This is the city's biggest night market. Across from Jiantan station, the basement of the Shilin Market building is one huge food hall, and behind it a maze of lanes spreads out around Cixian Temple along Dadong and Danan roads. Fried chicken cutlets as big as your face, charcoal-grilled Taiwanese sausage, oyster omelettes and crisp-bottomed pan-fried buns all mingle, cut every so often by a gust of stinky tofu. Between the food there are clothes stalls, claw machines and balloon-dart games, and two hours disappear fast.
