Laid out in 1903 under Japanese rule, this is Taichung's oldest park. On the lake in the middle floats Huxinting, a pavilion with two matching pointed roofs built for the 1908 railway opening ceremony and a fixture of Taichung postcards. Mornings bring tai chi groups, afternoons bring people resting on lakeside benches; a Qing-era city gate survives too. It's close to Miyahara and Second Market, so it makes a natural break on an old-town walk.
