- The headland at the east end of Circular Quay; tours meet at the Welcome Centre on the Lower Concourse
Walk along the quay from Circular Quay and the white-tiled roof keeps growing until, up close, it's rougher and bigger than any photo. Outside is free; to get in you need a tour or a show ticket. The shortest option is a guided tour of about 30 minutes in languages other than English; the full tour is an hour in English. You sit in the Concert Hall looking up at the timber panels, look out at the Harbour Bridge through the glass, and hear why the Danish architect Utzon walked away mid-build. It's around 200 stairs, so wear flat shoes.
