An octagonal cast-iron market hall from 1894. By day it feeds the financial district at lunch; after dark Boon Tat Street next door closes to traffic and nine satay carts fire up their charcoal. Plastic tables in the middle of the road, towers all around, satay and a beer: that is the picture. Carts 7 and 8 are the names that keep coming up. Grab char kway teow or laksa from the stalls inside to go with it.
