This is the Huaihai Road branch of Yuan Yuan, a Shanghainese chain that made its name on red-braised pork, up on the second floor of the Lippo Plaza tower just north of Xintiandi. Pork belly with the ribs still on is braised slowly with dark soy and rock sugar, with no starch to thicken the sauce. The Shanghai government put it at the top of its 2026 list of places for the dish. Beyond the pork, smoked fish, sizzling eel and crisp-skinned baby duck land on most tables.
