Huanghe Road food street
黄河路美食街
The street from Blossoms Shanghai: neon, soup dumplings and old-school restaurants
- Budget
- About ¥50 a head for a dumpling meal
- Address
- Huanghe Road, Huangpu, running about 600 m north from West Nanjing Road
A short street running about 600 m north from West Nanjing Road. In the 1990s it was Shanghai's restaurant row, with cooks from all over China competing under neon signs. It went quiet for years, until Wong Kar-wai's 2023 series Blossoms Shanghai put it back on screen. Taishengyuan, the real-life model for the show's Zhizhenyuan restaurant, is here, and so is Jia Jia Tang Bao, famous for crab soup dumplings. Office workers queue here on weekday lunch breaks; after dark the red neon comes on and drama fans line up for photos.
