A hostel in an old army building inside Fort Mason, part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Windows frame Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge, and foghorns drift in on misty mornings. You can walk to the Marina, Ghirardelli Square and Fisherman's Wharf, and it's a good base for biking to the bridge. A movie room, pool table and fireplace lounge get travellers talking in the evenings.
