Kalabera Cave

Kalabera Cave

A limestone cave with a skylight roof

Address
At the end of Kalabera Trail in northern Marpi, near the Bird Island lookout road

A wooden walkway and ramp lead to the mouth of the cave, and inside, light drops through gaps in the roof onto the floor. The walls carry more than forty engraved figures made by the early Chamorro people. Kalabera means skull, a nod to its past as a burial site, and in 1944 civilians and soldiers sheltered here and used it as a field hospital. It photographs well, but it suits a quiet visit.
