By day the square in front is full of people resting on the steps, by night of diners from the surrounding restaurants. Inside, the apse glows with gold mosaic. Beneath the 12th-century Christ and Mary there is a row of scenes from the Life of the Virgin made by Pietro Cavallini in 1291. Entry is free. During Mass sightseeing is restricted, so keep quiet.
