Sao Beach (Bai Sao)

Bãi Sao

Flour-white sand and shallow jade water, the whitest beach on the island

Tickets
Beach access is free; sunbed and shower terms vary by beach restaurant or bar
Address
Southeast coast, a few km north of An Thoi; "Bai Sao" is enough for drivers

The sand here is unusually white and fine, the kind that squeaks underfoot. You can wade a long way out and still be only waist-deep, which suits kids, and on a clear day the water glows pale jade. A few restaurants and beach bars line the shore, and the standard plan is a sunbed, a coconut and half a day. It faces east, so it looks best from morning to midday rather than at sunset.
