Twenty-odd minutes on the train and you're in another country, no border check. From the station, climb to the rock of Monaco-Ville for the changing of the guard outside the palace at 11:55 every day, then pass the cathedral where Grace Kelly is buried and the cliffside gardens on your way down to the harbour. Port Hercule is packed with yachts worth more than houses, and across the bay in Monte-Carlo the Belle Époque casino waits with a line of supercars out front. The whole country is stitched together by stairs and public lifts, so it's more walkable than it looks.
