The signature is the Kamitsumichi bento, seasonal dishes in a pentagon-shaped box, with or without tempura (the tempura-free one is called Wakakusa). Asuka-nabe, Nara's milk-based hotpot, needs booking by 3 p.m. the previous business day. It is a slow, quiet lunch on tatami, right for tired legs.
