Built before Tokyo Tower, this was Japan's first combined broadcast tower, a red lattice of steel planted in the middle of Hisaya-odori Park. The lift runs to a Sky Deck about 100 metres up, where the park stretches north and south like a green ribbon and the Sakae towers light up along it at dusk. The base now holds cafés, shops and a hotel, so it feels far fresher than an old TV mast. The classic Sakae evening is looking up at the tower from Oasis 21, then down at Oasis 21 from the tower.
